FenderpunkR
One of my buddies is Pakistani and he introduced me to the hookah, i loved it and bought my own from www.smoking-hookah.com.So far im liking it, but i have alot to learn and alot of trial and error. I got the little 50g boxes and they just seem really dry compared to all the DIY videos and pictures i have seen, is this normal? can i add water to it? I guess from what i have read my main problem is overheating, i can smoke for a few minutes and its great but then it starts to taste burnt and burns the back of my throat on inhale and exhale. When i pull of the foil the tobacco is black on top and moist underneath...Thats mainly my only problem right now, any help would be great. The search feature doesnt work as well as other forum apps im used to so sorry if i should have searched (trust me, im the guy that says replys SEARCH BUTTON to dumb questions )my hookah after its first use! staygone
Don't add water to dry shisha, add honey or glycerin. If it is too hot, take off some coal. How many coals are you using? How do you pack the bowl?-QM
Luke69
Yeah just use less coals and smoke it for maybe 5 minutes or so and if it doesnt get better add more coal.
waterboi
Dont use water . Sounds like just to much heat. When it gets harsh try removing a coal or moving it over the edge a bit. ALso what kind of coals are you using?Nice Hookah BTW and welcome to the forum.

FenderpunkR
i have been using one peice of Soex quick lites i break it into 4 peices and spread it around the edge of the bowl but it STILL burns. I dont really pack it at all, i just pick it out of the bag and kinda sprinkle it into the bowl, maybe push it down alittle but just to smooth it out and so it doesnt touch the foil, not really PACKING it...im going to try and get some of the tobacco that comes in the jars/plastic tubs, it looks much more moist than this cheezy looking stuff my hookah came with, and its dated 2007(is that bad?)also will i get better smoke with one of these Edited February 26, 2008 by FenderpunkR

FenderpunkR
any way! back on topic, could i still be making too much heat with only one quick lite coal broken into 4 peices? or is my stuff just too dry?
MechAnt
Soex coals are trash. That's probably a majority of your problem. One coal should be sufficient, especially with the combo bowl that you have.

crisbeatz
Welcome! And from what Iv'e read, anything with te word "SOEX" on it is bad stuff. If you look inthe review section, you can see what I mean. Have fun and use the search option aolt too. Some questions have been answered already but please still ask away. That's how I got my thang down.
mathuv
havent heard good things about the combo bowl. also are you using a windcover? if so, try taking it off when the smoke gets too harsh. are you waiting for the coals to turn red hot/white ash before you put them on? try doibling the foil. i personally dont like those wide, shallow bowls, much prefer me a standard egyptian narrow head tbh.. if it still tastes burnt and you have a windcover, try adding just half a coal and put the windcover on then adding the other half when the smoke starts to get thin. hope that helps Edit: Oh and welcome to the forums! FenderpunkR
ill try using half a coal next time, maybe this weekend i can ride out to kansas city...i think thats where the nearest hookah shop is. I wanna get some better tobacco and maybe a wind coverAlso are all bowls a standard size? as in the part that connects to the stem? most bowls i have seen online dont list a size or anything so im guessing there all the same? I wanna get some better tobacco and maybe a wind coverAlso are all bowls a standard size? as in the part that connects to the stem? most bowls i have seen online dont list a size or anything so im guessing there all the same?yeah theyre pretty standard, if the bowl doesnt fit, a new grommet could solve it. some chinese hookahs have a small "cone thingy" (the part where the stem attaches to the bowl ) and use a thick grommet. if you plan on switching bowls often, carry a few different sized grommets. like today i tried to fit my standard egyptian bowl onto my friends mini hookah (incidentally he has the same bowl as you :S) and it didnt fit so i had to jam the grommet pretty hard into the bowl and it stayed but it was loose, i pushed so hard i thought i would break the bowl :/
FenderpunkR
so most shops should carry different sized grommets? i have to shove my bowl on pretty hard too, doesnt seem like the angle is the same
mathuv
normally if you buy a bowl that takes a different sized grommet, the grommet would be supplied with it.

FenderpunkR
yea i used that on my buddys but we had the same problem with too much heat and burning, we would pull off the foil and it would all be stuck and burnt to the foil...we just have serious heating problems over here!!
